Šibenik is a city in northern Dalmatia, located at the confluence of the river Krka and the Adriatic Sea. It is the capital of Šibenik-Knin county and the oldest native Croatian town on the Adriatic coast. It was first mentioned in 1066 in the charter of King Petar Krešimir IV, which is why it is often called Krešimir’s town. The official status of the city, which it received in the 13th century, is the main reason for the beginning of the construction of its main symbol, the Cathedral of St. Jakov, a famous building included in the UNESCO list of monumental heritage.
